HELLO,

We are glad you stopped by. This is American Tiger Karate Schools of Alabama's home page. I am Sensei Lyvon Free, a fourth degree black belt (also called a low master) in the system and I felt it necessary to make a web page for my school. You may ask why, well the reason would be that I am proud of our small school, all of our students here, and even prouder of the style itself.

Our style is a combination style founded by Shihan Douglas J. Welsh, in 1986 , after his studies under Grand Master Floyd Burk of Traditional American Karate, located in California. More about Shihan Welsh and Grand Master Burk can be found on our affiliation page.

American Tiger Karate Schools of Alabama opened its door June 1, 2003. We are a small town school believing that Karate is the continuing growth of knowledge, skill and attitude for the purpose of achieving personal development, self-mastery, and self-defense. We focus on physical and mental health. American Tiger Karate Schools of Alabama has four instructors  teaching the American Tiger Karate Schools style which is a combination taking what we believe to be the best elements of other styles to form one. It is a complicated style which for an average adult to achieve a black belt in this system would take at least four years. We believe martial arts is not a sport it is a way of life.
